SOUTH – HOT & COLD WATER OUTAGE ADVICE

Water service is an essential building service. If you experience a hot water outage, cold water outage, or complete loss of water, documenting the issue and reporting it consistently
helps create a record of the problem.

Step 1: Document the Outage

• Write down the date and time the outage began.
• Note whether you have:
  • No hot water
  • No cold water
  • No water at all
• If possible, take a short photo or video showing the faucet running without water or
  demonstrating that only cold or hot water is available.
• Keep notes for each day the problem continues.

Step 2: File a 311 Complaint Every Day if the Problem Continues

Call 311 or file a complaint online:
https://portal.311.nyc.gov/
When you contact 311, say:
“My apartment has a hot water outage, cold water outage, or no water service.
Today is day ___ of this condition.”
Record your 311 complaint number.

Step 3: Report the Outage to PWG

• Building
• Apartment number
• Date(s) and time(s) of the outage
• Whether the issue involved hot water, cold water, or both
• Your 311 complaint number (if available)

Step 4: Document Everything in Writing

Submit a repair request through Parkchester’s service portal and save a copy of the
conversation or chat transcript:

If you call management, follow up with an email summarizing the conversation so you have a
written record.

Step 5: Email Management, the Board, Sponsor, and Elected Officials

Suggested Subject Line:
Water Outage – [Building] – [Date]
Include:

• Building and apartment number
• Date(s) and time(s) of the outage
• Whether you lost hot water, cold water, or all water service
• The impact on your household
• Your 311 complaint number
