If your elevator is out of service, take these steps and keep a written record.

When you contact 311, say:
“My building has one elevator and today is day ___ it has been out of service. Residents, including those with disabilities, cannot access their apartments.”
Record your 311 complaint number.

Step 2: Help Track the Issue

After filing your 311 complaint, submit your information here:

Please include:
  • Building
  • Date(s)
  • Your 311 complaint number (if available)

Step 3: Document Everything in Writing

Submit a repair request through Parkchester’s service portal and save a copy of the
conversation or chat transcript:
https://www.parkchesternyc.com/repairs/
If you call management, follow up with an email summarizing the conversation so you have a
written record.

Step 4: Email Management, the Board, Sponsor, and Elected Officials

Put the outage in writing and ask for a written response. Suggested Subject Line Elevator Outage at [Building Address] — Day [#] Sample Email
Hello,

I am writing regarding the elevator outage at [building address]. Today is day [#] that the elevator has been out of service.

This is creating a serious hardship for residents, especially seniors, people with disabilities, residents with mobility issues, and anyone who cannot safely use the stairs. In a building with only one elevator, an outage can leave residents effectively stranded or unable to access their homes.

I am asking management, the board, and the sponsor to provide:

  1. Immediate confirmation of when repairs began and the current status.
  2. A clear estimated timeline for restoration of service.
  3. Written updates to residents until the elevator is back in service.
  4. Any accommodations being offered to residents who cannot safely use the stairs.

I have also filed a 311 complaint regarding this issue. Complaint Number: [Insert Complaint Number]   Please treat this issue with urgency and respond in writing.

Sincerely,

[Your Name] [Apartment Number / Building Address]
