NORTH – HEAT ADVICE

NYC Heat Law (Oct 1 – May 31)

 

6AM-10PM: If outside temperature is below 55°F, indoor temperature must be at least 68°F.

10PM-6AM: Indoor temperature must be at least 62°F.

Step 1: Document the Temperature

  • Write down the date, time, and indoor temperature.
  • Take a photo of the thermometer if possible.
  • Keep notes for each day the problem continues.

Step 2: If heat is below the legal minimum, file a 311 complaint every day

Call 311 or file a complaint online:
https://portal.311.nyc.gov/
When you contact 311, say:
 “My apartment is not meeting NYC heat requirements. Today is day ___ of this condition.”
Record your 311 complaint number.

Step 3: Report the Outage to PWG

After filing your 311 complaint, submit your information here:
 
Please include:
  • Building
  • Apartment number
  • Temperatures
  • Your 311 complaint number (if available)

Step 4: Document Everything in Writing

Submit a repair request through Parkchester’s service portal and save a copy of the
conversation or chat transcript:

If you call management, follow up with an email summarizing the conversation so you have a
written record.

Step 5: Email Management, the Board, Sponsor, and Elected Officials

Suggested Subject Line:
Heat complaint – [Building] – [Date]
Include:

  • Building and apartment number
  • Date(s)
  • Temperatures
  • The impact on your household
  • Your 311 complaint number
